2018 Merlot

The 2018 Merlot is the first wine we produced at Pigasus and our goal was to produce a wine that was a true expression of the vineyard and vintage. This was a perfect project for our friend, viticulturalist and wine-maker, Randy Czech of Unturned Stone Wines. Randy practices minimal intervention in the production of natural wines from organically grown grapes. We let Randy run the show with this vintage and he chose to pick at relatively low brix levels to help maximize the natural acid in the wine, thus hopefully providing the backbone needed for long-term aging. This is a wine that we hope will improve for years to come!

2018 Syrah

The 2018 Syrah was produced as a joint venture with friend and neighbor, winemaker Patrick Sullivan of Greystack Cellars. Patrick focuses on the production of fine wines from estate-grown grapes in the Bennet Valley AVA. This project came together later in the season and, as a result, the fruit hung a bit longer than normal. While this created a few challenges for Patrick’s wine-making skills, we were rewarded with a flavorful, yet silky and balanced Syrah – no jam here!
